Amazon Considers Investment in Diamond to Expand in Regional Sports Network Operations
Simultaneously with a prospective acquisition of streaming platforms Disney and Netflix, global e-commerce giant Amazon is considering options to invest in sports content. As the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports, Amazon is negotiating the respective move with the biggest regional sports programmer Diamond Sports Group (DSG).
Multiyear Partnership:
As reported by WSJ, the DSG portfolio including 40 major sports teams across the country may now be available for strategic investment from Amazon after the DSG filed for bankruptcy earlier in 2023. In Las Vegas and a consortium has reportedly purchased the long-stalled The Drew Las Vegas casino resort project in hopes of opening the 67-story venue as the new-look Fontainebleau Las Vegas by the end of 2023.
According to a Tuesday report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal newspaper, a range of local politicians and dignitaries gathered at a special ground-breaking ceremony yesterday to mark the official launch of work that will eventually see the 24.5-acre Las Vegas Strip site feature an around 3,700-room venue complete with over 500,000 sq ft of meeting and convention space as well as one of the city’s largest gaming floors.

South Korean casino operator Grand Korea Leisure Company Limited reportedly saw its aggregated gross gaming revenues for January drop by a little over 3.5% month-on-month to approximately $8.1 million.
According to a report from GGRAsia, the Seoul-headquartered firm chalked up combined gaming receipts of $8.4 million for the final month of 2021, which was some 147.7% higher than November’s tally despite a decision from the government to introduce a range of new measures to help fight the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

NIGC Targets Apache Tribe’s Oklahoma Casinos in Enforcement Action
The tribal gaming regulator has said that has flagged what it considers to be multiple offenses committed by the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma dating back to 2013 and that have to do with the annual audits of gaming operations and the Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA).
